Carlos Alcaraz Advances to Cincinnati Masters Quarterfinals with Straight-Set Win

Cincinnati, OH

World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz reached the quarterfinals of the Cincinnati Masters with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over fellow young star and friend Luca Nardi in just 1 hour and 20 minutes.

This marked their second meeting of the season, with Alcaraz improving his head-to-head record against Nardi to 11-0, dropping only two sets in total.

Alcaraz showcased his strong serving, losing his serve only once and facing just two break points. On the return, he converted four of 11 break opportunities, taking control behind both first and second serves.

Both players struggled with unforced errors, combining for over 50, but Alcaraz dominated from the baseline and hit 20 service winners compared to Nardi’s 11.

The Spaniard raced through the first set in 27 minutes, winning 6-1, with multiple service winners and a break at love. The second set was more competitive, as Nardi earned a break in game six to lead 4-2, but Alcaraz immediately broke back and held for a 5-4 lead. A 14-minute ninth game ended with a double fault from Nardi, giving Alcaraz the decisive break. He sealed the match with a volley winner on match point.

Alcaraz now moves on to the Cincinnati Masters quarterfinals, looking to continue his impressive run and challenge for the title.
