Chris Evert Dismisses Comparisons Between Her Story with Jimmy Connors and Raducanu-Alcaraz Rumors
Tennis legend Chris Evert has clarified that there are no similarities between her past relationship with Jimmy Connors and the recent speculation linking Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz.
In the 1970s, Evert and Connors were frequently in the spotlight as teenagers, with rumors about their relationship circulating even before they confirmed it. After both won Wimbledon titles in 1974, they publicly acknowledged their engagement and were celebrated as tennis’s “golden couple.” However, their relationship ended before marriage.
Meanwhile, Raducanu and Alcaraz, both 22, have been repeatedly asked about dating speculation in recent months. Despite fan discussions, both players have consistently clarified that they are simply good friends.
Ahead of the US Open, ESPN approached Evert for her perspective. The 70-year-old firmly rejected comparisons:
“No, because they’re not having a relationship. I’m so glad I came up in the ’70s, not in this day and age. Because you’re talked about no matter what you do,” Evert explained.
Raducanu also addressed the matter during Wimbledon, telling reporters with a smile:
“We’re just good friends.”
The focus now shifts back to the courts, where both Raducanu and Alcaraz are preparing to showcase their talent at the upcoming US Open.
