Civil Aviation Invites Applications for Chartered Flights to Iran and Iraq

PCAA Invites Applications for Chartered Flights to Iran and Iraq for Pilgrims

The Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) has officially invited licensed air operators to apply for chartered flight services between Pakistan and Iran/Iraq, aiming to facilitate religious travel during the upcoming pilgrimage season, according to a report by 24NewsHD.

Air Travel Encouraged Amid Road Restrictions

This initiative follows the federal government’s recent decision to suspend road travel to these countries due to security concerns, particularly for pilgrims traveling for Arbaeen in Iraq and other religious gatherings in Iran.

In its notification, the PCAA urged all valid air charter license holders to submit applications to operate special flights for pilgrims. These chartered services will offer a more secure and efficient travel option for the large number of Pakistani citizens who visit Iran and Iraq each year for religious purposes.

Priority for Religious Tourism

The Civil Aviation Authority emphasized that applications related to religious tourism will be given priority. Coordination with relevant departments is also being ensured to support safe, timely, and organized air travel for all approved charter operations during the peak season.

Government Reaffirms Air Travel Policy

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also reiterated the government’s position via a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), confirming that road travel for Arbaeen will remain restricted this year. Air travel will be the only approved mode of transport for pilgrims visiting Iran and Iraq.

Positive Response from Tour Operators

Religious tour operators have responded positively, calling the move a safe and practical solution. Many expect chartered flight services to be organized swiftly, allowing thousands of pilgrims to make their journeys comfortably and securely.
