Complete List of Active HEC MS and PhD Programs

HEC Updates List of Recognized MS/MPhil and PhD Programs

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has released an updated list of active MS/MPhil (Level 7) and PhD (Level 8) programs, now available on its official website at www.hec.gov.pk/site/MS-MPhil-PhD.

The update follows nationwide training sessions organized by HEC for focal persons of higher education institutions (HEIs). These sessions highlighted the importance of maintaining accurate records in the Pakistan Qualification Register (PQR)—a centralized and authentic database of recognized degree programs aligned with the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).

HEIs were directed to ensure their graduate programs are properly documented in the PQR and approved by statutory bodies. Focal persons were trained to act as key liaisons between HEC and universities, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and timely verification of academic records.

With the updated data, HEIs have verified their entries, and HEC has now published revised program lists for public use. These lists aim to help prospective students make informed decisions about admissions and avoid unrecognized programs.

Important for applicants:
Before applying, students are strongly advised to check both the updated PQR List and the NOC Issued List to confirm that their chosen program is active and recognized. Admission into any unlisted program may lead to non-attestation of the degree.

The PQR serves as an official registry that:

  • Identifies HEC-recognized academic programs at HEIs

  • Maps programs to relevant NQF levels

  • Shares the current status (active/suspended/closed)

  • Protects students from unapproved programs

  • Supports transparent verification and recognition processes

By ensuring transparency and accuracy, the PQR strengthens public trust in higher education and supports better planning for students, universities, employers, and regulators alike.
