Gilgit-Baltistan Government Helicopter Crashes in Chilas, Killing Five
Gilgit-Baltistan: A government helicopter crashed on Monday in Chilas, Diamer District, leaving five crew members dead, officials confirmed.
Officials Confirm Casualties
Government spokesperson Faizullah Faraq stated that the helicopter went down in the Thor area of Chilas. Onboard were two pilots and three technical staff, all of whom lost their lives.
Diamer Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Abdul Hameed also confirmed the incident, reporting that five casualties occurred in the crash.
Helicopter Was on a Test Mission
According to SSP Hameed, the aircraft was conducting a test landing on a newly proposed helipad when the accident happened. Police and rescue teams quickly reached the crash site and launched evacuation operations.
Cause of Crash Under Investigation
While SSP Hameed said the exact cause of the crash remains unknown, the GB government spokesperson indicated that a technical failure may have led to the tragedy.
