Cyclonic Storm ‘Shakhti’ Forms in Arabian Sea, PMD Issues Weather Alert

KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has announced that the deep depression over the northeast Arabian Sea has intensified into a cyclonic storm named ‘Shakhti’, located about 360 km south of Karachi as of Friday afternoon.
According to the PMD, the system is expected to move west-northwestwards and may further strengthen into a severe cyclonic storm within 24 hours. It is then likely to shift west-southwestwards towards the central north Arabian Sea.

Rain & Thunderstorms: Light to moderate rainfall with wind-thunderstorms is forecast in Tharparkar, Umerkot, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, Tando Muhammad Khan, Hyderabad, Matiari, and Jamshoro, with isolated showers in Karachi division.

Karachi Weather: Mostly cloudy and humid conditions are expected on Saturday, with maximum temperatures between 32°C and 34°C. Humidity will range from 75–85% in the morning and 60–70% in the evening.

Sea Conditions: The sea is likely to remain rough to very rough, with squally winds of 40–55 km/h near the Sindh coast.
PMD Advisory
The PMD has strongly advised fishermen not to venture into the deep sea until Sunday due to dangerous conditions. It also warned that windstorms and lightning may damage weak structures, including kacha houses, electric poles, billboards, solar panels, and vehicles.
Meteorologists further noted that moist currents from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea are expected to strengthen between October 4 and 6, potentially enhancing rainfall activity in parts of Sindh.
