Karachi Welcomes First Monsoon Showers, Bringing Much-Needed Relief from Heat

KARACHI: The weather in Karachi turned pleasant on Saturday morning as light to moderate rainfall refreshed multiple parts of the city, breaking a prolonged spell of intense heat and signaling the official start of the monsoon season.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), areas such as Malir, II Chundrigar Road, Saddar, and surrounding localities experienced light to moderate showers early in the day, with more intermittent rain expected through the afternoon and evening.

  • 🌡 Temperature: Maximum expected at 31°C.

  • 💧 Humidity: High, currently recorded at 90%.

  • 🌬 Winds: Blowing from the northeast at 10 km/h, creating a cooling effect across the city.


First Monsoon Spell in Full Effect

The first spell of monsoon rains began in Karachi on Friday, offering residents a welcome break from the recent heatwave and officially kicking off the rainy season.

The PMD has also issued alerts for rain, gusty winds, and thunderstorms in several other districts of Sindh, including:

  • Hyderabad, Dadu, Badin

  • Ghotki, Kashmore, Jacobabad

  • Tharparkar, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot

  • Khairpur, Sukkur, Larkana

  • Qambar Shadadkot, Shaheed Benazirabad

The southern regions of Karachi currently show dense cloud cover, according to the PMD, suggesting the likelihood of heavier rainfall in certain pockets of the city today.


Upcoming Weather System

Looking ahead, another monsoon system is likely to approach Sindh around July 5 or 6, potentially bringing more widespread rainfall and thunderstorms, the PMD warned.
