Serbia Wraps Up Strong Preparation with Tournament Win in China Ahead of 2025 World Championship
Just days before beginning their title defense at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2025, Serbia completed a successful tune-up in China, topping a four-team preparation tournament in Shenzen. The defending champions defeated Bulgaria, Canada, and the Netherlands to secure first place before traveling to Thailand, where the World Championship will take place from August 22 to September 7.
Serbia Dominates in Shenzen
Led by long-time head coach Zoran Terzić, Serbia showed both depth and consistency across three matches.
-
vs. Bulgaria (3-1): Captain Tijana Bošković set the tone with a stellar performance, scoring 25 points (23 kills, two aces) in the opening win. Bulgaria’s Aleksandra Milanova and Hristina Vuchkova contributed nine points each.
-
vs. Canada (3-1): With Bošković rested, outside hitter Aleksandra Uzelac stepped up, tallying 21 points (16 kills, three aces, two blocks). Canada’s Hilary Johnson led her team with 15 points.
-
vs. Netherlands (3-0): In what was effectively the tournament’s final, Serbia delivered a convincing victory. Uzelac once again impressed with 22 points, while Bošković added 16. Dutch captain Nika Daalderop scored 13 in the loss.
The Netherlands claimed second place after wins over Canada and Bulgaria, while Bulgaria secured third following a five-set victory against the Canadians.
Looking Ahead to the World Championship
Serbia will begin their campaign in Pool H, alongside Japan, Ukraine, and Cameroon. The Netherlands land in Pool A with Thailand, Sweden, and Egypt, while both Bulgaria and Canada compete in Pool E, which also features Türkiye and Spain.
The Serbians head into the tournament chasing a third consecutive world title, and their form in Shenzen shows they remain among the favorites.
