Drone Are Now Banned in Islamabad

Islamabad Bans Drones and UAVs for Two Months Over Security Concerns

The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has announced a two-month ban on drones and other Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), citing serious security concerns. The order, issued under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) 1898 by Additional District Magistrate Sahibzada Muhammad Yousaf, exempts law enforcement agencies and ICT administration from the restriction.

Why the Ban Was Imposed
According to the official notification, UAVs — including drones, phantoms, and quadcopters — could be misused for unauthorized surveillance or potential attacks on sensitive locations. Authorities warned that such misuse could threaten public safety, disrupt peace, and compromise the security of residents as well as critical installations in Islamabad.

Link to Muharram Security Measures
The decision comes alongside strict security arrangements for Muharram processions. Officials are taking extra precautions to prevent any form of aerial monitoring or interference. Over 30,000 security personnel, including Islamabad Police, Special Branch, and traffic officers, have been deployed. Surveillance will be conducted via the Safe City Central Control Room, with procession routes sealed and monitored around the clock.

Enforcement and Penalties
The ban took effect immediately on July 18, 2025, and will remain in force for two months. Any violation of the order may result in legal action under the relevant provisions of the CrPC. Authorities also noted that even after the ban expires, ongoing investigations or legal proceedings related to violations will continue.

Past Precedents
This is not the first time such restrictions have been implemented in Islamabad. In 2019, the city administration also imposed a temporary ban on drones over similar security concerns.
