Elena Rybakina’s Coach Stefano Vukov Cleared to Return After WTA Suspension

The coach of 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina, Stefano Vukov, has been cleared by the WTA Tour to return following a suspension related to a potential breach of the organization’s code of conduct.

Vukov was provisionally suspended in January while the WTA investigated the matter. In February, the tour confirmed the investigation was complete and maintained the ban but did not specify its duration. On Friday, the WTA announced that Vukov is now allowed to receive credentials granting access to player areas and practice courts at official events.

“The WTA is committed to providing a safe and respectful environment for all athletes and participants, as outlined in our Code of Conduct and Safeguarding Code,” the WTA said in a statement. “Sanctions following breaches are carefully considered and subject to appeal before an independent tribunal. While details remain confidential, we confirm Mr. Vukov is eligible for credentials at WTA events.”

The New York Times first reported the lifting of Vukov’s ban.

Rybakina had initially announced before last year’s U.S. Open that Vukov would no longer coach her but later revealed before the Australian Open that he would rejoin her team. She has maintained that she was never mistreated during their time working together.

Currently ranked No. 10 on the WTA Tour, Rybakina recently reached the semifinals of the National Bank Open in Montreal, where she lost to Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko, the tournament champion.
