Netherlands Defeat Nepal in Historic Triple Super Over Thriller in T20 Tri-Series
GLASGOW – June 17, 2025:
In a historic and dramatic encounter, the Netherlands edged past Nepal in a thrilling Twenty20 tri-series match that featured a record-breaking three Super Overs — a first in the history of T20 and limited-overs cricket.
A Match for the Ages
Batting first, the Netherlands set a competitive target of 152 for 7. Nepal needed 16 runs in the final over to secure victory. Tension reached its peak when Nandan Yadav hit a boundary off the final delivery, levelling the scores and forcing the first Super Over.
In the first tie-breaker, Nepal scored 19 runs, a challenging target. However, Dutch batter Max O’Dowd rose to the occasion, smashing a six off the last ball to match the score and push the game into a second Super Over — only the second time this has happened in men’s international cricket, the first being India vs Afghanistan in 2024.
Unprecedented Third Super Over
The Netherlands once again batted first in the second Super Over, scoring 17 runs. Nepal continued to fight, with Dipendra Singh Airee hitting a six off the last ball to tie the game yet again, triggering an unprecedented third Super Over.
This time, however, the excitement was short-lived. Nepal were unable to score a single run, and Dutch batter Michael Levitt sealed the match with a commanding six off the first delivery.
Looking Ahead
The Netherlands bounced back from a loss against Scotland earlier in the series and will now enjoy a rest day on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Nepal will return to the field against Scotland in the next fixture of the tri-series.
Conclusion
This memorable clash between the Netherlands and Nepal has already gone down in cricket history books for its unmatched drama and resilience on both sides. As the series continues, fans can expect more excitement and competitive spirit from all three teams involved.
