Five bodies recovered after 18 members of same family swept away in Swat River

Tragedy in Swat: Family Swept Away by Sudden River Surge During Leisure Trip

SWAT: A family outing turned tragic on Friday morning when at least 18 members of the same family were swept away by a sudden rise in water levels in the Swat River, according to local rescue officials.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:00 AM, while the family, visiting from Sialkot, was having breakfast along the riverbank. Heavy rainfall upstream led to an unexpected surge in water flow, catching the group off guard.

Rescue Efforts Underway

Emergency response teams launched immediate operations. So far, three individuals have been rescued, while five bodies have been recovered from the river. Search efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining family members.

Officials on the scene noted that the sudden increase in water volume was likely caused by flash flooding in upstream areas, a common risk during the monsoon season in northern Pakistan.

Authorities Urge Caution

Rescue and district administration authorities have urged tourists and local residents to exercise extreme caution near riverbanks, especially during unpredictable weather conditions.

Visitors are advised to monitor local weather alerts and avoid riverside activities during periods of heavy rainfall to prevent similar incidents.

A Somber Reminder

This heartbreaking incident serves as a reminder of the importance of weather awareness and safety precautions when visiting natural sites. Authorities continue to coordinate search operations and provide assistance to the affected family.
