Tom Bruce Switches from New Zealand to Scotland for Upcoming Cricket World Cup League 2

Tom Bruce, the experienced top-order batter, has officially switched his cricketing allegiance from New Zealand to Scotland. Fans will see him in action for his new side later this month, when Scotland competes in the Canada leg of the Cricket World Cup League 2, starting August 27.

Bruce qualifies to represent Scotland through his Edinburgh-born father. Interestingly, he had a brief stint with a Scotland Development side back in 2016 before focusing on his New Zealand career. Since 2014, he has been a key figure for Central Districts in domestic cricket and represented New Zealand in 17 T20 internationals between 2017 and 2020. Most recently, he featured in the Global Super League in Guyana.

Sharing his excitement, Bruce said,
“My family has strong Scottish roots, and they are proud to see me wear the Scotland colors. I’ve had the privilege of playing for New Zealand, but now I’m looking forward to contributing to Scotland’s success on the world stage. I know this group has the talent to grow and achieve great things.”

Reflecting on his earlier involvement with Scotland cricket in 2016, Bruce added,
“It was an amazing experience, and I played alongside several current players. I’ve followed their progress over the years, and I’m eager to join them again.”

Bruce first rose to prominence in the 2015-16 Super Smash, scoring 223 runs at a strike rate of 140.25 for Central Districts. His innovative batting style earned him a spot in the New Zealand squad for the T20I series against Bangladesh. Over his 17 T20Is, he scored 279 runs with two half-centuries.

Scotland head coach Doug Watson welcomed the addition, saying,
“Tom is a world-class cricketer with vast experience in both T20 and 50-over formats. His presence will be a huge asset, both on and off the field, and I’m confident he’ll fit in perfectly with the squad.”

With his international experience and aggressive batting approach, Tom Bruce’s inclusion is expected to boost Scotland’s campaign as they aim for a spot in the upcoming Cricket World Cup.
