Heavy Rains Trigger Floods, Kill 4 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

PESHAWAR – Four people were killed and four others injured as heavy rains lashed several parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday, causing widespread flooding and damage.

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority, two deaths were reported in Khyber tribal district, while Buner and Tank districts reported one death each due to roof collapses and mudslides.

Flooding in Peshawar
In the provincial capital, neighborhoods including Hayatabad, Regi, and Warsak Road were inundated as Budhni nullah overflowed. Rescue 1122 teams evacuated at least 200 residents, including women, children, and elderly people, using special boats. Several basements were flooded, and children stranded in a school bus were rescued.

The city’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service was suspended for several hours due to inundation of the corridor, with services resuming later in the afternoon.

Damage in Tribal Districts
In Khyber tribal district, 12 houses were damaged and multiple electricity poles were uprooted. Flash floods washed away link roads in Landi Kotal and Jamrud, while landslides disrupted traffic in Loe Shalman.

Mohmand tribal district also suffered heavily. Safi tehsil’s Khakh Bazaar was the worst-hit, with dozens of shops, warehouses, and factories damaged. Roads, bridges, and electricity lines were destroyed, hampering rescue efforts.

In Lower South Waziristan, landslides on the Wana-Gomal Zam Road brought traffic to a halt. Authorities launched debris clearance operations, while traffic was temporarily diverted to alternate routes, causing delays for commuters and patients.

Rainfall Data
The Pakistan Meteorological Department reported heavy rainfall across the province: Kakul received 38mm, Upper Dir 27mm, Saidu Sharif 20mm, Peshawar 9mm, and Takhtbai 7mm.

Officials continue to monitor the situation, providing relief and emergency assistance to affected residents as rescue efforts remain underway.
