Padres Rally Past Giants 4-1 Behind Darvish’s Strong Start and Key Late Hits

Jake Croneworth’s go-ahead RBI single in the seventh inning set the stage for Freddy Fermin’s two-run homer off Logan Webb, helping the San Diego Padres secure a 4-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Monday night. This win marks San Diego’s third consecutive victory.

Yu Darvish (2-3) delivered a solid performance on the mound, striking out six batters without issuing a walk over six innings. The right-hander allowed just one run on four hits in his seventh start of the season after missing over three months due to elbow issues, making his first start only on July 7.

Padres closer Robert Suarez sealed the win with his MLB-leading 33rd save.

In the seventh inning, Gavin Sheets doubled and was replaced by pinch-runner Bryce Johnson, who later scored the go-ahead run. The Giants had tied the game in the sixth thanks to a Rafael Devers home run, while Jackson Merrill’s RBI double in the top of the seventh broke the scoreless tie earlier in the game.

For the Giants, Logan Webb (10-9) took the loss, giving up four runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and one walk over 6 1/3 innings. The Giants struggled to provide offensive support after being shut out 8-0 at home by the Nationals the previous day.
