India Announce Squad for Asia Cup 2025, Bumrah and Gill Return

Defending champions India have announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE. The team, led by Suryakumar Yadav, features the return of star batter Shubman Gill and pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah.

India will kick off their Group A campaign against hosts UAE in Dubai, followed by the much-anticipated clash with arch-rivals Pakistan at the same venue four days later.

Key Highlights of India’s Squad

  • Shubman Gill: Returns to the T20I setup after more than a year. He last played the format in July 2024.

  • Jasprit Bumrah: Included despite workload concerns, having featured in the recent Test series in England.

  • Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer: Miss out on selection, with selectors preferring Abhishek Sharma for his all-round skills.

  • Wicketkeeping options: Both Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma have been named.

  • Spin department: Led by Kuldeep Yadav alongside all-rounder Axar Patel.

Chief selector Ajit Agarkar explained Jaiswal’s omission:

“It’s unfortunate for Yashasvi, but with Abhishek Sharma’s performances and his ability to bowl, he gives us more balance. Someone had to miss out.”
