Gorman drives in winning run, sparks Cardinals to 3-2 victory over Cubs

(Sports Correspondent: Imran Sohail)
The St. Louis Cardinals clinched a thrilling 3-2 win over the Chicago Cubs on Sunday night, securing the three-game series victory.

The decisive moment came in the seventh inning when Jordan Walker singled with two outs, stole second, and scored on Nolan Gorman’s clutch hit to right field, ending Shota Imanaga’s (8-5) night. Imanaga delivered an impressive performance with nine strikeouts and no walks over 6 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on four hits.

Cardinals’ starter Sonny Gray (11-5) shined on the mound, going seven innings while giving up just two runs on five hits, striking out seven, and walking one to earn the win.

Reliever JoJo Romero closed the game with 1 1/3 tense innings for his third save. Despite allowing a walk and two singles in the ninth, Romero held his nerve—helped by a key caught-stealing on pinch-runner Jon Berti—before inducing a groundout from Matt Shaw to end the game.

Chicago had tied the game 2-2 in the fifth inning when Shaw launched a homer into the left-field bullpen. Earlier, Pedro Pagés gave the Cardinals a 2-0 advantage with a two-run blast following Thomas Saggese’s leadoff single in the third.

The Cardinals now head into their next series with momentum, while the Cubs will look to bounce back.
