Govt Approves Rs. 10.8 Billion Relief Package to Waive Power Bills for Flood-Hit Areas

Govt Approves Rs. 10.8 Billion Relief Package to Waive Power Bills for Flood-Hit Areas
  Oct 3, 2025

ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet has approved a Rs. 10.8 billion relief package to provide electricity bill waivers and financial relief for communities severely impacted by the recent floods.

The decision follows devastating floods triggered by heavy monsoon rains and glacial melt in August and September 2025, which caused widespread damage in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Thousands of families have been struggling with the loss of homes, crops, and basic infrastructure.

Key Points of the Package:
  • Domestic electricity consumers in officially declared flood-affected areas will have their August 2025 electricity bills completely waived.

  • Those who have already paid their August bills will receive adjustments/refunds in their upcoming bills.

  • Commercial, industrial, and agricultural consumers in these regions will benefit from a payment deferral plan. Their August bills will be spread over seven monthly installments from December 2025 to June 2026.

To implement the initiative, the government has released Rs. 10.8 billion as an advance subsidy to the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA-G). Of this amount, Rs. 10.4 billion is allocated for bill waivers, while Rs. 464 million will cover the financial impact of deferred payments.

Officials stated that this move aims to ease the financial burden on flood-affected households and businesses, enabling them to focus on rebuilding and recovery in the months ahead.
