Government to Gradually Raise Sugar Prices to Rs. 171/kg Ahead of Crushing Season
The federal government has approved a phased increase in sugar prices, set to take effect before the upcoming crushing season begins on November 7, according to sources from the Ministry of Industries and Production.
Phased Price Hike Starting August 15
As per the plan, the price of sugar will rise by Rs. 2 every two weeks, starting August 15, and will continue through October 15. The current price of Rs. 165 per kilogram will gradually increase to Rs. 171 per kilogram by the end of this schedule.

Officials clarified that no further increases will be permitted after October 15, ensuring price stability as the sugarcane crushing season begins in early November.
Tax Burden and Market Oversight
Sources noted that sugar currently carries a tax burden of Rs. 27.50 per kilogram. The Ministry of Food Security has instructed provincial governments to closely monitor market prices and take strict action against any retailers or distributors selling sugar above the officially notified rates.
