Govt to Launch New Karachi–Sukkur Passenger Train

Govt Approves Rs. 6 Billion Karachi–Sukkur Passenger Train Project

Karachi – September 5, 2025 – Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi has announced the launch of a new passenger train service between Karachi and Sukkur, backed by an investment of Rs. 6 billion.

The upcoming service will feature modern, air-conditioned coaches and will operate on upgraded railway tracks, aimed at providing commuters with a faster, safer, and more comfortable travel experience.

Focus on Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) Revival

The announcement was made during a meeting with Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, where both sides also discussed the long-delayed Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project.

CM Murad Ali Shah emphasized the need for immediate collaboration between the Sindh government and Pakistan Railways, highlighting that the KCR had already faced years of delays and required urgent attention.

Rail Line Upgrades & Outsourcing Options

The chief minister further proposed outsourcing certain operations to improve service delivery. He also called for priority upgrades to the Karachi–Rohri rail line, which he said would boost efficiency and capacity, offering major relief to daily commuters.

Clearing Encroachments for Smooth Operations

Both the federal and provincial governments also agreed to remove encroachments along railway tracks, paving the way for new projects and ensuring smoother rail operations in the future.

This initiative reflects the government’s broader commitment to modernizing Pakistan Railways and improving passenger facilities across Sindh.
