Guerrero’s 20th homer helps Blue Jays beat Cubs 2-1

Toronto Blue Jays 2, Chicago Cubs 1 – Vladimir Guerrero Jr. smashed a two-run home run in the seventh inning, leading AL East frontrunner Toronto past Chicago. It was Guerrero’s 20th homer of the season and came off Matthew Boyd, breaking a 1-1 tie.
Max Scherzer delivered seven strong innings, allowing just one run on five hits to improve to 3-2 this year. Jeff Hoffman closed the game for his 27th save. The Cubs’ only run came from Michael Busch’s solo shot in the sixth.

Baltimore Orioles 5, Seattle Mariners 3 – Rookie Tomoyuki Sugano earned his 10th win, pitching 5 1/3 effective innings before a long rain delay. The Orioles capitalized on Seattle’s defensive miscues in the fourth inning, then added insurance with Jeremiah Jackson’s RBI single. Julio Rodríguez homered for Seattle, but the Mariners dropped their second straight game.

Washington Nationals 3, Philadelphia Phillies 2 – Jose Tena’s clutch two-run single in the seventh propelled Washington to victory. Paul DeJong also homered for the Nationals, who rallied from a 2-1 deficit. Rookie Cole Henry earned his first career save, while Philadelphia suffered its third straight loss.

Cleveland Guardians 9, Miami Marlins 4 – José Ramírez had three hits and scored three times as Cleveland overcame early deficits to win. Gabriel Arias drove in two runs, and the Guardians used a four-run seventh inning to pull away. Cleveland has now won 23 of its last 32 games.

Atlanta Braves 4, New York Mets 3 – Ozzie Albies powered Atlanta with a home run, an RBI single, and the go-ahead double in the eighth inning. Bryce Elder pitched seven solid innings, and Raisel Iglesias secured the save. The Mets have now lost 13 of their last 15 games.

Detroit Tigers 4, Minnesota Twins 3 (11 innings) – Colt Keith scored the deciding run on Gleyber Torres’ sacrifice fly in extra innings. Riley Greene added his 28th home run, and Rafael Montero closed out the win for Detroit.

Arizona Diamondbacks 8, Colorado Rockies 2 – Lourdes Gurriel Jr. hit a three-run homer in the first inning, while Eduardo Rodriguez tossed seven strong innings for the win. Jose Herrera added a two-run shot as Arizona extended its home run streak to 12 straight games.
