Heavy Rain in Hyderabad Triggers Emergencies Across Sindh

Hyderabad Records Torrential Rainfall, Karachi Also Hit by Urban Flooding

Hyderabad experienced record-breaking rainfall over the past 24 hours, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) confirming unprecedented precipitation across multiple areas.

According to official data, Latifabad topped the list with 280 millimeters, followed by City Taluka with 268 millimeters, while Qasimabad and Rural Taluka received 185 and 158 millimeters respectively.

The heavy downpour caused significant urban flooding, disrupting daily life in several neighborhoods. In Latifabad, floodwater inundated streets and hampered mobility, while rescue teams were deployed to assist affected residents. Authorities also reported difficulties in ongoing recovery operations near local streams due to rising water levels.

Impact in Karachi

Meanwhile, Karachi also witnessed heavy showers that submerged multiple major roads, including M.A. Jinnah Road, Guru Mandir, Golimar, Rizvia, Board Office, KDA, Nagan Chowrangi, and Karelia Stop. The flooding led to severe traffic disruptions and challenges for commuters.

In addition, low-lying areas such as Lassi Goth and Sukhia Goth reported rainwater entering homes. Local police confirmed that water pressure caused partial damage to factory structures in some industrial zones.

Government Response

Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel during the ongoing spell. The Sindh government has also issued safety guidelines and continues to monitor the situation closely.
