Heavy Rainfall Predicted for Karachi

Karachi Set for Moderate to Heavy Rainfall Next Week, PMD Forecasts

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall in Karachi next week, as a new monsoon system is expected to enter Sindh from India’s Gujarat on the night of August 17.

According to the latest update, several districts of Sindh are likely to receive showers between August 18 and August 23, with one or two rain spells predicted for Karachi during this period.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a separate weather advisory, warning of heavy monsoon rains in multiple cities — including Lahore — during Independence Day celebrations.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia stated that the seventh phase of the monsoon has started and will continue until August 21. This spell, he noted, is expected to be more intense than earlier ones, potentially causing heavy rainfall in upper river catchment areas and across the plains of Punjab.

He further added that showers are also expected during upcoming religious gatherings, including the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and the Urs of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh (RA), with most districts of Punjab likely to be affected.
