Heavy rains across Sindh from Sunday to Tuesday

PMD Issues Heavy Rainfall Alert for Sindh and Eastern Punjab from September 7–9

RAWALPINDI (September 5, 2025): The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather alert, forecasting torrential rains and thunderstorms in Sindh and eastern Punjab between September 7 and 9, with risks of urban flooding in major low-lying cities.


Weather System Moving from India Towards Sindh

According to PMD, a low-pressure system currently located over India’s Madhya Pradesh is expected to move west and northwest, reaching Rajasthan and adjoining areas of Sindh by September 6. This will trigger strong monsoon currents across Sindh and Punjab from the same day onwards.


Districts Likely to Receive Heavy Rains

Under this weather pattern, widespread rain, thunderstorms, and heavy downpours are expected in:

  • Sindh: Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Sanghar, Tharparkar (Islamkot, Nagarparkar, Chachro, Diplo, Kaloi, Dhali), Khairpur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Matiari, Tando Allahyar, Tando Mohammad Khan, Thatta, Badin, Sajawal, Jamshoro, Dadu, Kashmore, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, and Ghotki.

  • Punjab (Eastern districts): Heavy rain spells will also impact adjoining areas from September 6 night to September 9.


Risk of Urban Flooding in Major Cities

The PMD has warned that torrential rainfall may trigger urban flooding in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Sajawal, Mirpurkhas, Shaheed Benazirabad, Tharparkar, Khairpur, Sukkur, and Larkana between September 7 and 9.
