Karachi Braces for Heavy Rain, Two Teens Die in Electrocution
Karachi is facing heavy rain and gusty winds, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) warning that “torrential rains” could cause urban flooding and waterlogging in low-lying areas.
A deep depression system over central Sindh is bringing widespread rain and strong gusts. The PMD said rainfall may continue in multiple spells through today, with occasional gaps.
Electrocution Tragedies
Tragically, two teenagers lost their lives due to electrocution during the downpour.

A 17-year-old died at a water filter plant in Ayub Goth.

An 18-year-old was electrocuted inside his home in Rasheedabad.
Traffic and Safety Measures
The city’s traffic police declared both sides of Tariq Road a no-parking zone to keep it clear as an alternative route if Sharea Faisal floods. Commuters were advised to avoid low-lying areas and exercise caution on slippery roads.
Karachi Additional Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho directed officials to coordinate with all departments and inform residents in vulnerable areas about safety precautions.
City Preparedness
On directives of CM Murad Ali Shah, the city administration is on alert. Assistant commissioners and municipal staff are monitoring drainage systems and ensuring equipment is ready for rainwater management.
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab confirmed that all 46 major drains under the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) have been cleaned, with additional pumps, machinery, and 120 water and sewerage vehicles deployed across the city. Relief camps have been set up to assist stranded residents.
The mayor urged citizens to stay calm, avoid rushing out, and cooperate with authorities during the ongoing monsoon spell expected to continue until September 10.
