Iga Swiatek Reaches Cincinnati Masters Quarterfinals, Shares Lighthearted Take on Season Goals

Cincinnati, OH – World No. 3 Iga Swiatek is through to the Cincinnati WTA 1000 quarterfinals after defeating Sorana Cirstea 6-3, 6-4 on Wednesday. The reigning Wimbledon champion will next face Anna Kalinskaya, aiming to reach her third straight semifinal in Cincinnati.

Fresh off her first Wimbledon title in July — and her sixth Grand Slam overall — the 24-year-old is just three wins away from lifting her maiden Cincinnati trophy.

Following her win over Cirstea, Swiatek was asked about her yearly goals. With a smile, she explained that she prefers to break the season into two parts rather than plan for the entire 11 months in advance.

“If I’m going to think about the next 11 months, I’d be tired after one week,” Swiatek laughed. “I focus on the first part of the year, then set new goals for the second. Looking at just the next tournament always helps me.”

Swiatek’s season didn’t start as planned — she dropped to World No. 8 in June and faced a 13-month title drought. However, her form has surged in recent months, and she is now back at No. 3, chasing more success on the hard courts.
