Instagram Launches Interactive Map Feature in Pakistan: Explore and Connect Safely
ISLAMABAD: Meta has officially launched the Instagram Map feature in Pakistan, offering users an exciting and interactive way to explore local content, discover trending places, and stay connected — all while keeping privacy and safety at the forefront.
The feature is conveniently accessible at the top of users’ Direct Message (DM) inboxes, allowing them to explore stories, reels, posts, and notes tagged with specific locations. Whether it’s a popular café, a concert, or a local park, the new Instagram Map makes it easier to see what friends and creators are sharing nearby.
Users can also choose to share their location with select friends, close friends, or no one at all. Importantly, location sharing is off by default, giving users complete control over their privacy settings.
A clear indicator at the top of the map shows when location sharing is active, and reminders appear whenever users tag their location. Parents using Instagram’s Supervision Tools can also manage their teens’ sharing settings and ensure safer app use.
To enhance security and user trust, Meta has introduced additional updates to the feature, including:
-
Removal of profile photos from map content for added privacy.
-
Clearer indicators when location services are turned off.
-
Preview options that show how location-tagged content will appear before posting.
With this rollout, Meta aims to create a safer and more connected Instagram experience for users in Pakistan — helping them discover the world around them without compromising privacy.
