Iran Shoots Down Israeli Drones as Tensions Escalate with Missile Strikes
TEHRAN / TEL AVIV – Iranian air defence forces have successfully shot down multiple drones that allegedly entered the country’s airspace on reconnaissance missions, according to Iranian state media reports shared by ARY News.
The drones, believed to be Israeli, were intercepted over the Salmas border region in northwestern Iran, with state television describing them as part of “espionage and surveillance operations.”
This development comes amid a sharp escalation in hostilities between Iran and Israel, with both countries launching missile attacks in what has become one of the most intense exchanges in recent years.
🔴 Missile Strikes Claim Lives, Cause Widespread Damage
Iran launched retaliatory missile strikes targeting Israel early Saturday morning following a series of earlier Israeli attacks on Iranian territory. According to international media outlets, at least two people were killed and nearly 40 others injured in Israel as a result of the strikes.
In Israel, air raid sirens blared across major cities including Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, forcing residents to seek safety in shelters. The Israeli military confirmed that dozens of missiles were launched, some of which were intercepted by its air defence systems.
🌍 Explosions Heard in Tehran
Back in Iran, several explosions were reported in Tehran, according to semi-official news agencies. Two projectiles reportedly struck Mehrabad Airport, located near sensitive government and military installations. The airport, which also functions as an air force base, was said to have caught fire, although the extent of the damage remains unclear.
Iranian media reported that multiple waves of missile strikes were launched, with some targeting Tel Aviv in the early hours of Saturday. Witnesses in both Tel Aviv and Jerusalem confirmed hearing loud explosions.
⚠️ Rising Regional Tensions
The confrontation marks a dangerous turn in the already fragile situation in the Middle East. With both nations possessing significant military capabilities, the international community has expressed concern about further escalation.
More updates are expected as the situation continues to unfold. Both sides remain on high alert, and calls for restraint and diplomatic engagement are growing louder from global leaders.
