Iraq Updates Visa Policy for Pilgrims with New Age Rules

Iraq Updates Visa Policy for Pilgrims: New Age Restrictions Announced

Baghdad/Islamabad – Iraqi authorities have introduced revised visa regulations for international pilgrims, including new age-based conditions aimed at improving security and crowd management at the country’s religious sites.

New Rules for Pilgrimage Visas

According to Muhammad Umar Butt, spokesperson for Pakistan’s Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, men under the age of 50 will not be eligible for pilgrimage visas if traveling alone. However, those under 50 may still apply if they are accompanied by their families.

Officials clarified that the updated policy is intended to streamline pilgrim inflows and strengthen logistical arrangements at Iraq’s holy shrines and religious gatherings, especially during peak seasons.

Purpose of the Policy

Authorities emphasized that the changes are not meant to restrict access to sacred sites but to safeguard visitors and provide a more organized experience for the millions of pilgrims who visit Iraq each year.

What Pilgrims Need to Know

  • The revised criteria apply to all international applicants seeking pilgrimage visas to Iraq.

  • Travel operators and individuals are advised to review the new rules carefully before submitting applications.

  • The regulations cover entry into Iraq’s holy cities and shrines, including Najaf and Karbala.

A Significant Shift in Pilgrimage Management

This update marks a notable change in Iraq’s approach to managing religious tourism. By introducing age-based eligibility requirements, the Iraqi government aims to balance tradition with modern security and organizational needs.
