John Goodman Opens Up About Roseanne Barr, ‘The Conners,’ and Life After Their Fallout
Veteran actor John Goodman recently revealed that it’s been seven to eight years since he last spoke with Roseanne Barr, his longtime co-star from the hit sitcom Roseanne. The two once formed one of television’s most beloved duos, but their relationship appears to have ended following the controversy that led to the show’s cancellation in 2018.
A Long Silence Between Former Co-Stars
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Goodman shared candidly,
“I’d rather doubt if she wants to talk to me. We haven’t talked for about seven or eight years.”
Their on-screen chemistry began in 1988 with the launch of Roseanne, which quickly became one of the most-watched shows on television. However, the show’s 2018 reboot was cut short after Barr was removed due to controversial remarks on social media.
From Roseanne to The Conners
Following the reboot’s cancellation, ABC launched a spin-off, The Conners, which continued the story without Roseanne’s character. Goodman stepped back into his role as Dan Conner, helping carry the series forward.
“I didn’t think [the reboot] was going to go beyond five or six episodes. Then Roseanne got fired. I thought that was it,” Goodman explained. “As soon as the cast was dismissed, I picked up The Righteous Gemstones. Then we got to do the show again as The Conners, and I enjoyed it while I was there.”
Remembering the Early Days
Despite their current lack of communication, Goodman recalled the early days of Roseanne with fondness.
“We hit it off from jump street. She made me laugh, and I made her laugh… it was so much fun.”
He added, “We used to get 20 to 30 million viewers. It was a special time.”
Health Update: Goodman on the Mend
In addition to reflecting on his career, John Goodman also discussed a hip injury he sustained earlier this year while filming a new comedy project directed by Alejandro Iñárritu, co-starring Tom Cruise. Though he didn’t elaborate on the extent of the injury, he acknowledged that it had been a challenge during filming.
Summary:
While John Goodman and Roseanne Barr haven’t spoken in years, his reflections on their early chemistry and the legacy of Roseanne highlight the impact they had on television. As The Conners continues and Goodman tackles new projects, fans can expect more from the acclaimed actor—both on screen and off.
