Juventus defeat PSV 3-1 in Champions League opener

Kenan Yildiz Sets Record as Juventus Triumphs 3-1 Over PSV Eindhoven

Juventus marked a successful return to the Champions League with a 3-1 victory over PSV Eindhoven at home on Tuesday. Kenan Yildiz and Weston McKennie scored two quick goals in the first half, propelling Juve to a 2-0 lead.

Yildiz, making his mark at just 19 years and 136 days old, set a new record as Juventus’ youngest-ever scorer in the Champions League. Nicolas Gonzalez added a third goal for Juve after the break, while Ismael Saibari netted a late consolation for PSV.

This match was Juventus’ first Champions League appearance since a one-year absence due to a points deduction and a ban related to UEFA Club Licensing and Financial Fair Play rules.

PSV, leading the Eredivisie with a perfect 15 points from five matches, played without their first-choice goalkeeper Walter Benitez, who had to leave Turin to be with his family after the birth of his son.

The game, marking the first competitive encounter between these two former European champions, began with high intensity.

Yildiz opened the scoring in the 21st minute with a stunning curling shot that hit the post and beat PSV goalkeeper Joel Drommel. McKennie extended the lead in the 27th minute with a close-range goal following a blocked effort.

Despite PSV’s attempts to claw back into the game, Gonzalez sealed Juventus’ victory in the 52nd minute with a powerful shot into the top corner, set up by a cross from Dusan Vlahovic.

PSV’s Saibari managed to score a late goal during stoppage time, but Juventus remained unbeaten in their first four Serie A matches, having conceded their first goal of the season.
