Karachi City FC to Represent Pakistan at Inaugural SAFF Women’s Club Championship

Women’s football in Pakistan is set for a breakthrough moment this December, as Karachi City Football Club (FC) prepares to participate in the first-ever SAFF Club Women’s Championship, taking place from December 17–20 in Nepal.

The tournament will feature five leading women’s clubs from South Asia, including:

  • Nasrin Sports Academy (Bangladesh)

  • Transport United Ladies FC (Bhutan)

  • East Bengal FC (India)

  • APF Football Club (Nepal)

  • Karachi City FC (Pakistan)

Karachi City FC secured its place by winning the 2024 National Women’s Football Championship, making history as the first Pakistani women’s club to compete at this level.

For Pakistan, this achievement represents more than just participation—it marks a turning point for women’s football. Until now, opportunities for female footballers to compete on the international stage have been limited. This championship gives players valuable exposure and the chance to measure themselves against some of South Asia’s strongest sides.

The event is seen as a milestone for the domestic game. Despite challenges such as limited resources and infrastructure, women’s football in Pakistan has continued to grow. Karachi City FC’s presence at the SAFF Championship is proof of that progress and a source of inspiration for young girls across the country.

Experts believe the experience gained will not only raise the standard of the sport locally but also pave the way for greater recognition and investment in women’s football nationwide.

As the countdown to December begins, fans are eager to see Karachi City FC carry the national flag with pride, hoping the team can deliver performances that reflect the growing potential of women’s football in Pakistan.
