Karachi Faces 48-Hour Water Supply Suspension in Three Districts

Residents across Karachi have been advised to store water in advance as the Karachi Water Corporation (KWC) announced a major 48-hour suspension of water supply from October 28 to 29. The disruption will occur due to scheduled inspection and maintenance work on the Hub Canal, one of the city’s main water sources, according to ARY News.

Areas Affected
The West, Keamari, and Central districts will be the most affected, as water supply to these regions will remain completely suspended during the maintenance period. Officials say this temporary shutdown is part of ongoing efforts to improve Karachi’s water distribution infrastructure.
Repair and Maintenance Work
The Hub Dam project director has officially notified the Water Corporation about the shutdown. Simultaneously, repair work is also underway on the 11K line at the North East Pumping Station, where a 48-inch pipeline leak has caused additional supply challenges. Three pumps supplying water to Karachi have been turned off, while one at the Dhabeji Pumping Station is under repair.

Areas Facing Shortages
As a result, neighborhoods including Scheme 33, Safora, North Nazimabad, Gulberg, Liaquatabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, and Federal B. Area are experiencing severe water shortages. The water tanker service has also been disrupted due to the suspension of main lines.
Officials Urge Caution
Authorities are urging citizens to use water carefully and store sufficient supplies to manage the two-day outage. A KWC spokesperson stated that around 150 million gallons per day (MGD) of water supply has been temporarily reduced.
