Karachi is Getting a New Rs. 1.4 Billion Flyover

KMC Approves New Flyover on Azeempura Road to Ease Karachi Traffic

KARACHI: In a major step toward reducing traffic congestion in the city, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has approved the construction of a new flyover on Azeempura Road, aimed at improving road connectivity and easing travel times for thousands of commuters.

Flyover to Connect Shahrah-e-Bhutto with Sharae Faisal

The newly approved flyover will link Shahrah-e-Bhutto with Sharae Faisal — two of the city’s busiest thoroughfares. The route is especially beneficial for those traveling to and from Jinnah International Airport, offering a signal-free corridor that could significantly reduce travel time.

Key Project Details

  • Length: Approximately 500 metres

  • Budget Allocation: Rs. 1.4 billion

  • Completion Timeline: 1 year (post formal approval)

  • Purpose: To create an alternate traffic route during ongoing development work on Shahrah-e-Bhutto

The decision was finalized during a high-level meeting chaired by Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, where the PC-1 of the project was reviewed and officially approved.

Project Aims to Tackle Urban Traffic Challenges

With Karachi’s traffic volumes growing daily, this project aims to:

  • Reduce signal wait times

  • Streamline airport-bound traffic

  • Support smoother inter-district connectivity

The flyover is expected to be a vital infrastructure upgrade, especially for residents of Azeempura, Shah Faisal Colony, Malir, and surrounding areas.

Once the Planning and Development Board gives its final nod, construction will begin immediately, with a target to complete the project within the next 12 months.
