Karachi’s Major Railway Stations to be Managed With Modern Technology

Govt Unveils New Plan to Modernize Karachi Railway Stations

Karachi – September 5, 2025 – Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi and Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani have announced a joint initiative to improve passenger facilities and upgrade railway stations across Pakistan, with a special focus on Karachi.

Pakistan Railways Partners with SSWMB

As part of the plan, Pakistan Railways will collaborate with the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) to ensure better cleanliness and sanitation at Karachi Cantt and Karachi City stations.

Under this agreement, SSWMB teams will manage sanitation inside trains, platforms, and surrounding areas using modern technology.

Upgraded Passenger Facilities

Hanif Abbasi said that since Karachi is the country’s economic hub, improving railway infrastructure in the city is a top priority. He revealed that new waiting halls are being built at Cantt Station with modern amenities to give passengers a more comfortable travel experience.

He further noted that similar collaborations with waste management firms in Punjab had already produced positive results, and the same model is now being implemented in Sindh.

Sindh Govt’s Role

Sindh Minister Saeed Ghani welcomed the initiative, stressing that the provincial government is committed to providing affordable and quality travel for citizens. He assured that the SSWMB will maintain high standards of cleanliness and added that he will personally visit the stations to review progress.

This move marks a significant step towards modernizing Pakistan Railways, making train travel more comfortable and reliable for millions of passengers.
