Severe flooding in Punjab has inundated the historic Kartarpur Gurdwara, leaving an estimated 200 to 300 people trapped. The Pakistan Army has launched urgent rescue operations to evacuate those stranded as floodwaters entered the shrine.
Officials reported that the flooding followed the breach of a protective embankment along the Ravi River near Kartarpur. Rising waters forced the closure of the Narowal–Shakargarh road, cutting off critical access routes as the flood spread rapidly.
The collapse of the dam near Bheko Chak was caused by an extraordinary surge in the Ravi River, with over 250,000 cusecs of water recorded at Kot Ninan in Shakargarh. As a result, areas including Bheko Chak, Nowshera, Nowgaza, Mandikhel, Bhajna, and the Kartarpur Main Highway are now submerged.
In response, the Pakistan Army and local authorities are coordinating relief and evacuation efforts, moving affected families to safer locations.
Flooding has also impacted the Chenab River, where water levels at Marala reached 769,000 cusecs inflow and 762,000 cusecs outflow. At Khanki, flows reached 755,000 cusecs, while the Ravi River at Jassar continues to pose serious flooding risks.
Additional readings at Shahdara show the Ravi at 72,000 cusecs, Baloki Headworks with 79,000 cusecs inflow and 67,000 cusecs outflow, Ganda Singh Wala at 245,000 cusecs, and Sulemanki at 100,000 cusecs.
