PDMA Issues Flood Alert in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Amid Heavy Rain Forecast from July 11–17
PESHAWAR: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a flood warning for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a fresh spell of torrential rains is expected across the province from July 11 to July 17, raising concerns over potential flash floods and urban flooding.
In a weather advisory shared with district administrations, the PDMA cited forecasts from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), which indicate that moist currents are entering the region and will likely intensify in the coming days. A westerly wave is also expected to hit the area on July 13, further enhancing rainfall activity.
Key Areas Under Flood Threat
The PDMA warned that heavy to very heavy rainfall could trigger flash floods in local streams and nullahs across multiple districts, including:

Northern KP: Chitral, Swat, Dir, Shangla, Kohistan, Mansehra

Central KP: Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, Kohat

Southern KP: Bannu, Karak, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank

Tribal districts: Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, North & South Waziristan
Urban flooding is also a concern in low-lying areas of Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, Nowshera, and D.I. Khan. Additionally, riverine floods may occur in the Chitral, Swat, Panjkora, and Kabul rivers.
Damage Reported from Recent Rainfall
In the past 24 hours, 22 houses were damaged due to rain-related incidents across the province. In Sirikot’s Botigrama area, a woman and her son were injured when the roof of their house collapsed.

PDMA Urges Precautionary Measures
The PDMA has instructed all district authorities to remain on high alert, ensuring the safety of residents, infrastructure, and livestock. Officials have been urged to implement emergency protocols and monitor vulnerable areas closely.
“Preparedness is key. We urge local administrations to take proactive steps to minimize loss of life and property,” a PDMA spokesperson said.
