(Sports Correspondent: Imran Sohail)
The 2025/26 LaLiga season kicked off with a record-breaking and remarkable opening weekend, as 27 different players scored – none managing to net twice. This surpassed the previous record of 24 distinct goalscorers, set on the first matchday of the 2019/20 season.

Kylian Mbappe’s penalty secured Real Madrid’s 1-0 win over Osasuna on Tuesday, capping off the historic start. Despite an average of 2.7 goals per game, no player scored more than once, highlighting the league’s incredible attacking depth.

The scoring spree spanned from Friday to Tuesday, with goals from both established stars and emerging talents. Girona saw four different scorers in their 1-3 loss to Rayo Vallecano, while Villarreal’s 2-0 victory over Real Oviedo featured strikes from Etta Eyong and Pape Gueye. Barcelona’s 3-0 win at Mallorca included goals from Raphinha, Ferran Torres, and Lamine Yamal, while Deportivo Alaves beat Levante 2-1 with goals from Toni Martinez, Jeremy Toljan, and Tenaglia.

Valencia and Real Sociedad also contributed to the tally with goals from Diego Lopez and Takefusa Kubo. Sunday’s fixtures continued the scoring variety: Adrian Liso and Uche scored for Celta in a 2-0 win over Getafe, Athletic Club’s 3-2 win against Sevilla produced goals from Nico Williams, Sannadi, Lukebakio, Agoume, and Robert Navarro, and Espanyol’s 2-1 loss to Atletico Madrid featured strikes from Julian Alvarez, Miguel Rubio, and Pere Milla.

The weekend concluded with Aitor Ruibal and German Valera scoring in Elche’s 1-1 draw with Real Betis, before Mbappe’s decisive penalty sealed the record for Real Madrid.

The 2025/26 LaLiga season has kicked off with a historic flourish, showcasing the league’s attacking talent and setting a new benchmark for goalscoring variety in Spanish football.
