Lahore to Get Its First Government-Backed Padel Courts
October 15, 2025
The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has announced plans to build the city’s first-ever government-backed padel courts, marking a major milestone for the promotion of emerging sports in Pakistan.
According to LDA officials, detailed proposals have been prepared for the project — one for constructing modern padel courts and another for developing a recreational park in the same area.
Under the plan, three world-class padel courts will be built at Ali Park, Garden Town, featuring modern amenities such as parking, walking tracks, an open-air gym, and a dedicated play area for children.
Chief Engineer-II Mazhar Hussain Khan briefed LDA Director General on the project’s design and progress. The estimated cost of the initiative exceeds Rs. 200 million, with final approval expected soon.
Each court will feature advanced lighting and infrastructure, allowing games to be played both during the day and at night.
Officials confirmed that the LDA has obtained a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) for the site, ensuring smooth progress. The entire project will be funded through LDA’s own financial resources without any external grants.
With padel gaining popularity across Pakistan’s private sports clubs, this public project represents the first serious government effort to make the sport accessible to all.
Experts believe that the initiative will encourage youth participation, promote healthy lifestyles, and foster a stronger sports culture in Lahore.
As construction begins, the padel courts at Ali Park are set to become a center of community activity and a model for similar government-backed sports developments in other cities.
