Air China Flight from London to Beijing Makes Emergency Landing in Russia

An Air China flight from London Heathrow to Beijing made an unscheduled landing in Siberia on Tuesday morning after experiencing an engine malfunction, officials confirmed.

✈️ Emergency Landing in Nizhnevartovsk
The Boeing 777 aircraft, carrying more than 250 passengers, was forced to divert and land at Nizhnevartovsk Airport in Russia’s Khanty-Mansi region. According to flight data from FlightAware, the plane departed London at 10:43pm (UK time) on Monday night and touched down safely at 8:17am local time after encountering technical issues mid-flight.

🛠️ Cause of Diversion
Russia’s civil aviation authority, Rosaviatsia, reported that the preliminary cause was a malfunction in one of the aircraft’s engines. The crew decided to divert to the nearest suitable airport as a precaution.

👥 Passengers to Continue Journey
Air China announced that a replacement aircraft will be dispatched to Nizhnevartovsk so passengers can continue their journey to Beijing later today. The airline assured that all passengers and crew members are safe.

🌍 Travel Advisory
The UK Foreign Office currently advises against travel to Russia due to ongoing security concerns. It remains unclear how many British nationals were onboard the diverted flight.

Flight CA856 normally takes just over nine hours between London and Beijing.
