Maximo Acosta Called Up by Miami Marlins for MLB Debut

The Miami Marlins promoted infield prospect Maximo Acosta from Triple-A Jacksonville on August 17, ahead of their three-game home series against the St. Louis Cardinals. The move was first reported by Daniel Álvarez of El Extra Base.

According to MLB Pipeline, Acosta ranks No. 25 on the Marlins’ Top 30 prospects list. Signed originally by the Texas Rangers, he joined Miami in a December 2024 trade.


Debut Game in Miami

Acosta made his Major League debut on August 18 at loanDepot park, starting at second base and batting eighth in the lineup. He recorded his first official plate appearances, showing flashes of potential while adjusting to the pace of the big leagues.


Minor League Track Record

The 22-year-old from Caracas, Venezuela appeared in 106 games for Jacksonville this season, posting:

  • .232 batting average across 430 plate appearances

  • 88 hits, including 13 doubles, three triples, and 12 home runs

  • 49 RBI, 28 stolen bases, and 45 walks

  • .695 OPS

Defensively, he started 101 games at shortstop and five games at second base, demonstrating range and solid athletic ability.

In 2024, Acosta hit .288 with Double-A Frisco and went on to shine in the Arizona Fall League, where he batted .338/.413/.521 and earned Rising Star honors.


Roster Moves

To make room on the roster, the Marlins placed Kyle Stowers (oblique strain) and Graham Pauley (oblique strain) on the 10-day injured list. Outfielder Joey Wiemer was also recalled from Jacksonville.
