Pakistan Coach Mike Hesson Confident in Spin Depth Ahead of Asia Cup 2025

Pakistan’s white-ball head coach, Mike Hesson, has expressed strong confidence in his squad’s spin and all-round options as they prepare for their Asia Cup 2025 opener in the UAE.

The New Zealand coach highlighted Pakistan’s variety in bowling, particularly the spin department, which he believes will play a key role in UAE conditions.

“Our side has the luxury of five spinners. Mohammad Nawaz is, in my view, the best spinner in the world right now. Alongside him, we have Sufiyan Muqeem and Abrar Ahmed, while Saim Ayub and captain Salman Ali Agha add valuable all-round support,” Hesson said.

Pakistan’s Balanced Squad

The squad features a blend of youth and experience. In addition to spinners, Pakistan’s pace attack includes Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Mohammad Wasim Jr., and Salman Mirza. The batting lineup has depth too, with Fakhar Zaman, Sahibzada Farhan, Mohammad Haris, Hasan Nawaz, Khushdil Shah, Hussain Talat, and Faheem Ashraf available for selection.

Several of these players also provide secondary bowling skills, giving the team flexibility in different match situations.

Recent Preparations

Pakistan arrive in Dubai after a successful tri-series in Sharjah, where they dominated Afghanistan in the final. The team’s form and adaptability in similar conditions provide a confidence boost ahead of the tournament.

Asia Cup 2025 Schedule

  • September 14 – Pakistan vs India (Dubai)

  • September 17 – Pakistan vs UAE (Dubai)

The competition will progress from the group stage to the Super Four round, with the final scheduled at the end of the month in the UAE.
