Mill Creek Little League Softball Team Heads to Nationals After Thrilling Walk-Off Win

GREENVILLE, N.C. — After an unforgettable walk-off win in San Bernardino, California, on July 25, the Mill Creek Little League softball All-Star team is now representing the West Region at the Little League Softball World Series in Greenville, North Carolina.

The victory, sealed by Liliana Delgado’s game-winning hit to centerfield, sparked a flurry of excitement — and last-minute travel plans. With only a few days to prepare, the team scrambled to get from Washington State to the East Coast.

“It’s been a whirlwind,” said manager Courtney Brown. “It’s been crazy. Just catching your breath from that last game.”

From Regional Champs to National Spotlight

After winning both their district and state championships, Mill Creek punched their ticket to the national tournament with a thrilling extra-inning victory at the Western Regional. Delgado’s clutch single capped off their California run and opened the door to their biggest stage yet.

The team returned home on July 26, and by Monday, plans were in motion to fly out early Wednesday morning. A few players stayed behind temporarily in California to compete in the PGF Nationals in Huntington Beach, later rejoining the team in North Carolina by Friday.

Travel Challenges and Community Support

While Little League covers flights and lodging for players and coaches, parents had to make their own arrangements to witness this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Last-minute flight prices and time off from work added financial stress — but the Mill Creek community stepped up.

“There’s been some financial strain, but we’ve had some community support,” Brown shared. “That’s helped the girls a lot.”

Donations to support the team’s expenses are being accepted and have played a vital role in easing the journey.

Ready for the Big Stage

Upon arriving in Greenville, Brown visited Stallings Stadium at Elm Street Park, where the tournament is being held.

“It’s the nicest field these girls will ever play on,” Brown said. “Everything has been first class.”

The event features eight U.S. regional champions and four international regions, including Asia-Pacific, Canada, Europe-Africa, and Latin America.

Mill Creek’s opening matchup is scheduled for 7 a.m. Sunday against Lake Mary, Florida, the Southeast Region champions. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.

“Florida is no joke — that team is for real,” Brown said. “I just want to see the girls compete the best they can.”

Embracing the Moment

In the days leading up to the tournament, the team enjoyed festivities organized by Little League, while fitting in light practice sessions. Opening ceremonies are scheduled for Saturday, followed by an early bedtime before Sunday’s big game.

Brown emphasized that the ultimate goal is not just to win — but to represent Mill Creek with pride.

“The support from the community has been amazing,” he added. “It’s not just Little League families — the whole town is behind these girls.”
