Mirpur Police to Launch Phased Safe City Project

Mirpur to Launch Phased Safe City Project for Enhanced Public Security

The district police of Mirpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, are set to roll out a phased Safe City project aimed at boosting public safety and crime prevention. The announcement was made by SSP Khurram Iqbal during his address at the Kashmir Press Club on Monday.

The project will feature advanced surveillance systems, including the installation of CCTV cameras at key points across the district. These will be used to monitor suspicious activity and curb crime more effectively. Currently, 30 cameras have been installed, though only six are operational. Repair work is underway to restore the remaining units.

As part of the broader safety initiative, plans are in place to set up a dedicated women’s police station, form community policing units, and establish liaison committees to strengthen cooperation between law enforcement and residents.

The SSP issued a strong warning to drug peddlers, cybercriminals, and individuals using fake IDs for malicious purposes, stating that strict legal action will be taken against offenders. He also stressed that any police personnel found protecting criminals will face severe consequences.

Iqbal urged citizens to remain alert and report any suspicious activities. He assured that his office is always open to the public and highlighted ongoing work on a strategy to improve traffic flow in the city. He also called for active collaboration from the media to help build a safer community.
