Multan Train Service Faces Suspension Due to Floods

Flood Pressure in Chenab River Prompts Action in Multan

Multan authorities are closely monitoring critical flood pressure in the Chenab River, and officials have decided to create a cut in the Shershah embankment to divert water and prevent further damage.

Railway officials have warned that this measure could disrupt train services, including the Thal Express, Mehr Express, and DG Khan Shuttle. Meanwhile, the closure of Head Muhammad Wala and Shershah roads has cut off Multan’s road links to Muzaffargarh, DG Khan, Layyah, Bhakkar, and parts of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

At the same time, India has released more water into the Sutlej River, which Pakistan has described as a violation of the Indus Waters Treaty. The Ministry of Water Resources confirmed that high-level floods are expected at Harike and Ferozepur.

In response, the Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a flood alert, warning that water levels in the Sutlej are likely to rise further in the coming hours. Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
