Murree Issues Special Traffic Plan for Independence Day

Murree Issues Special Traffic Plan for Independence Day Holiday Rush

Murree is gearing up for a massive influx of tourists as Pakistan prepares to celebrate Independence Day. Thousands of visitors from across the country are expected to arrive in the hill station, prompting authorities to implement a comprehensive traffic management plan.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Waseem Akhtar announced that more than 200 traffic wardens will be deployed across the city to maintain smooth traffic flow and assist travelers. Main access routes, including the Murree Expressway and RMK GT Road, will remain open for vehicles coming from Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

To reduce congestion, several roads — including View Forth Road, Bank Road, Hall Road, Kuldana Road, and Imtiaz Shaheed Road — will operate as one-way routes. Mall Road, one of Murree’s most popular tourist spots, will be closed to vehicles and reserved for pedestrians during the holiday period.

For better traffic control, the city has been divided into five sectors. Heavy vehicles such as buses and trucks will be restricted from entering Murree between 6:00 AM and 2:00 AM. Checkpoints will be established at Murree Brewery, Bansra Gali, and Lower Topa. Vehicles traveling to Azad Kashmir will be diverted through the Expressway to avoid crowding the hill station.

To prevent parking-related bottlenecks, no parking will be allowed within 200 meters of key intersections such as GPO Chowk and Kuldana Chowk. Visitors are encouraged to use designated parking facilities.

A dedicated Traffic Control Room will be available at 051-9269200 for assistance and guidance throughout the Independence Day celebrations.
