NADRA Denies Not Paying Rent of Headquarters for 25 Years

NADRA Clarifies: No Rent Due on Headquarters Building in Islamabad

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has issued a formal clarification, confirming that no rent is outstanding for its headquarters building in Islamabad.

This response comes after concerns were raised during a recent Public Accounts Committee (PAC) meeting, where it was suggested that NADRA had occupied a State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) building for the past 25 years without rental payments.

Official Allotment Confirmed

A NADRA spokesperson told ProPakistani that the property in question was originally allotted to the National Database Organization (NDO)—NADRA’s predecessor—by the Government of Pakistan through an official letter dated February 17, 2000.

Following NADRA’s establishment in 2002, the land allotment was reaffirmed via a subsequent government notification issued on March 9, 2002.

No Audit Objections

NADRA emphasized that:

  • Its headquarters have remained in the same location for 25 years.

  • No objections have been raised by the Auditor General of Pakistan regarding rent or building occupancy.

  • Several other government departments and offices, including National Assembly standing committees, also use space in the building without being required to pay rent.

Matter Reviewed by NADRA Board

The matter was reviewed during the 69th meeting of the NADRA Authority Board, which concluded that the building was officially allotted by the federal government, and thus no rental payment is applicable.

Additionally, NADRA confirmed that it pays property tax regularly to the Capital Development Authority (CDA) in line with its obligations.

With this clarification, NADRA has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and compliance with all applicable legal and administrative frameworks.
