Naomi Osaka Reflects on Wimbledon Disappointment as She Reaches Montreal Semifinals

Tennis star Naomi Osaka has made a stunning comeback just weeks after a heartbreaking Wimbledon exit, advancing to the semifinals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Montreal. This marks her best run of the season and her first WTA 1000 semifinal appearance since finishing as runner-up at the 2022 Miami Open.

From Wimbledon Heartbreak to Montreal Momentum

In early July, Osaka looked poised for a deep run at Wimbledon, breezing through her opening two rounds. In the third round, she was just one set away from her first Grand Slam second-week appearance since the 2021 Australian Open. However, a tough loss to Anastasija Pavlyuchenkova left the four-time Grand Slam champion visibly emotional and without many positives to take away from the match.

But fast forward one month, and Osaka is back in top form.

Osaka: “I Let Go of My Expectations”

Speaking after her latest win in Montreal, Osaka shared how her mindset shift helped turn things around.

“I’m really happy. I’m also really excited,” said Osaka. “It’s kind of interesting, because after Wimbledon I was really disappointed. Then I just let go of my expectations — and now here we are. It’s kind of ironic, but I’m happy about it.”

A Climb Back Up the Rankings

With her performance in Montreal, Osaka is projected to climb at least 20 spots in the WTA rankings, breaking back into the Top 30 at world No. 29 — a position she hasn’t held in years.

“I feel a lot more at peace with myself and what I want to do in this part of the season,” the former world No. 1 said, showing a new level of composure and focus.

What’s Next?

Osaka will face rising star Clara Tauson in the semifinals as she eyes her first title match since returning to the tour after maternity leave.

Whether or not she advances to the final, Naomi Osaka’s resurgence is a strong reminder of her world-class talent and mental resilience.
