NDMA Warns of Mosquito-Borne Diseases During Monsoon

NDMA Issues Advisory to Prevent Mosquito-Borne Diseases During Monsoon Season

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an important public advisory warning about the increased risk of mosquito- and insect-borne diseases during the ongoing monsoon season.

Mosquitoes and other insects are known carriers of serious viruses that can cause life-threatening illnesses such as dengue fever, malaria, chikungunya, and other vector-borne diseases. Globally, these infections contribute to nearly one million deaths each year.

To protect against these risks, the NDMA urges the public to take simple but effective preventive measures. It is essential to prevent rainwater from collecting in and around homes, as stagnant water provides ideal breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Water containers, storage tanks, flowerpots, and any areas where water can accumulate should be regularly emptied and kept dry.

The advisory also stresses the importance of seeking prompt medical care if symptoms such as fever, headaches, or body aches develop during the rainy season.

This health alert comes amid earlier NDMA warnings about heavy rains and flooding in various parts of the country. The authority also raised concerns about potential Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOF) in regions including Gilgit-Baltistan, Chitral, Upper Dir, Swat, and Kumrat Valley.

Stay vigilant and follow health guidelines to reduce the risk of insect-borne diseases this monsoon season.
