Nick Kyrgios Withdraws from Cincinnati Masters 2025, Future Remains Uncertain
Nick Kyrgios, the 2017 finalist at the Cincinnati Masters, has officially withdrawn from the 2025 edition of the tournament. Although the Australian tennis star was listed for the event using a protected ranking, he has chosen to extend his break from professional tennis.
No Matches Since March for Kyrgios
Kyrgios has not competed on the ATP Tour since the Miami Open in March, where he earned his only win of the season against Mackenzie McDonald before falling in the next round to Karen Khachanov. That match remains his last appearance in singles competition.
With his latest withdrawal, Kyrgios becomes the 10th player to pull out of the Cincinnati event, joining other notable names such as Novak Djokovic, Jack Draper, and Grigor Dimitrov — the latter of whom defeated Kyrgios in the 2017 Cincinnati final.
Injury Struggles Continue
The 29-year-old has faced a series of physical setbacks in recent years. He underwent arthroscopic knee surgery in January 2023 and has played only one official match between October 2022 and the start of 2025.
Although Kyrgios once held the spotlight as a Wimbledon finalist in 2022—where he took the first set off Novak Djokovic—his injuries have significantly hampered his ability to return to form. He also claimed a title at the ATP 500 event in Washington during that peak season.
Uncertain Return Ahead of US Open
With no clear update on his return, it is becoming increasingly unlikely that Kyrgios will participate in the upcoming US Open 2025. The Aussie had previously hoped to make a strong comeback but continues to prioritize recovery and long-term health.
Fans Await Comeback
Tennis fans worldwide are eager to see Kyrgios return to the court, known for his explosive talent and on-court charisma. However, it remains to be seen whether he will be able to make a full recovery and regain his competitive edge in future tournaments.
